Windows and Linux server management

Server management may include setup, configuration, monitoring, maintenance and controlled changes to supported Windows and Linux servers. Required activities depend on the role of the server, installed software, integrations, security and ownership.

Takeover and baseline assessment

For an existing environment, suXus first gathers facts. The assessment covers versions, configuration, accounts and administrative access, network connections, certificates, scheduled tasks, updates, logs, capacity, backup status and available documentation. Findings and remediation priorities are discussed before ongoing management begins.

Monitoring and maintenance

Appropriate checks can monitor availability, capacity, storage, key services, errors and backup jobs. An alert is useful only when responsibility for assessment, required context and the next action within the management boundary are clear.

Updates and change management

Updates and configuration changes are assessed for necessity, dependencies and risk. Where appropriate, a maintenance window, post-change check and fallback action are agreed. Exceptions and deferred updates are documented.

Availability, backup and recovery

Availability, data protection and recovery are distinct matters. suXus documents which server components and data are protected, who manages backups and how recovery is checked. Traditional server and infrastructure backup is covered by the separate Backup and continuity service.

Documentation

Documentation covers at least the server role, relevant dependencies, management contacts, access procedure, main configuration, monitoring, maintenance and recovery agreements. Secrets and recovery codes do not belong in general management documentation.
